Oregon White Truffles

Oregon White Truffles (Tuber Oregonense & Tuber Gibbosum) are technically two different species that mature at different times of the year. However, they are similar enough that they are sold as the same product. They have a magnificent first impression with an intense aroma that brings roasted hazelnuts and warm, melted butter to mind. Their flavor is deliciously earthy with a hint of herbs and garlic.

Description

Oregon White Truffles technically belong to two different species (Tuber Oregonense & Tuber Gibbosum) that mature at different times of the year. However, they are similar enough that they are sold as the same product. Fresh Oregon white truffles don’t carry the same punch that the fresh European ones do, but they’re more affordable and still have great truffle flavor. They have a magnificent first impression with an intense aroma that brings roasted hazelnuts and warm, melted butter to mind. Their flavor is deliciously earthy with notes of herbs and garlic. A great way to try fresh white truffles for the first time! Looking for Oregon white truffles out of season? Consider frozen Oregon white truffles.

Other Names: None

Season: November-January

Origin: Oregon, USA

Shelf Life: When loosely wrapped in a paper towel and placed in an open paper bag inside of your fridge, Oregon white truffles will stay fresh for up to ten days. Alternatively, you may store your truffles with rice in a sealed container for a shelf life of up to 3 weeks. The rice may absorb a small amount of the truffles flavor, however. If you choose this method of storage, be sure to save the rice for a lightly truffle-flavored meal.

Nutritional Facts: A typical serving of truffles (5-7 grams per dish per person) contains very little nutritional content. However, you can be assured that even if you were to eat a large amount of truffles, your body wouldn’t complain. Oregon white truffles are low in calories but high in protein, iron, zinc, fiber, and more. (Source)

Tips: The awesome aroma & flavor of Oregon white truffles can be weakened by cooking, so we recommend adding truffles when the dish is already finished, just before serving. Simply shave them raw over your favorite dish like risotto, mashed potatoes, pasta, cheese pizza or even scrambled eggs. It is recommended to use 5 grams of truffles per dish per person.
